About Sensory-Friendly Performances:

Sensory-Friendly performances are designed to be more accessible to those individuals on the autism spectrum or to anyone with sensory sensitivities. Imagination stage has been working closely with a network of theatre professionals and nationwide autism experts to help us prepare for this new series.

Come and enjoy the show with your child and relax! Our sensory-Friendly experience creates a safe space for all members of the family, parents included.

Adaptations for Sensory-Friendly performances include:

  • A pre-visit social story, video, and other preparatory materials for parents and children explaining what to expect from the performance.
  • Glow sticks raised to share when a surprise will happen on stage.
  • Reduction of the sound level and bright stage lighting.
  • Low lighting in the theatre so patrons can easily move around or exit the theatre.
  • Limited crowds and “seating holes” to allow space between families.
  • Designated spaces for those who need a quieter area to take a break.
  • Allowance for the use of tablets and smartphones for communication.

Tickets to Sensory-Friendly performances are $12-25, and are 100% refundable up until the show begins. Our Box Office and Front of House staff are passionate to create an accessible and welcoming experience for your child and your family. To purchase tickets, please call the box office at 301-280-1660. The Box Office is open Monday-Sunday, 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Funded in part by the MAXIMUS Foundation, Kiwanis Foundation, Mars Foundation and Nora Roberts Foundation

All Sensory-Friendly performances are in The Annette M. and Theodore N. Lerner Family Theatre.
