WMATA Fall 2017 Travel Training Workshop

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (Metro) is offering a 2-Day Travel Training Workshop for professionals who provide services for people with disabilities and/or older adults in the Washington, DC area. This course provides travel trainers with the information they need to train people with disabilities and older adults to use accessible Metrobus and Metrorail successfully. It includes class work as well as orientation in the system.

Attendees will learn to: Differentiate between all Metro programs, local programs and determine which option best meets customer needs. Navigate the Metro system and partnership bus systems. Utilize accessibility features to best meet customer needs. Develop an individualized transit plan, conduct assessments, teach busy intersection crossings, evaluate the accessibility of pathways, bus stops, shelters and learn how to recommend barrier removals. Guide and instruct a customer in a wheelchair to board, position and alight bus and rail, safely and effectively.

*Learn about Metro's emergency preparedness policies. Join a local network of professionals for on-going support, information and best practices. Create a professional portfolio.

*SPACE IS EXTREMELY LIMITED and registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis, so turn in your registration as soon as possible to guarantee a seat! Registrations are due by WEDNESDAY, October 25th. All attendees MUST attend both days of the workshop to receive a certificate. Attendees that arrive after 9:30 am will not be admitted.
